For me, and many others, the motivation is quite simple. I don’t trust major-brand corporations to put sufficient time and care into their products. The truth is that there are many artificial additives and other chemicals that are part of nearly every cooperate product. This is not to say that all chemicals are bad, butI don’t trust a large corporation to determine which are good or bad for me.

To me, it’s not worth the risk. The wrong chemicals can have adverse effects that cause aging and damage to the skin and worse. I would rather take my beauty products into my own hands. This is why I chose to create my own items for my home spa. Once you start you will find that the recipes are simple and effective, and most importantly they yield high-quality homemade products that are a delight to use.

These products will have natural ingredients with no chemical additives. My personal rule of thumb is if I can’t pronounce something, it doesn’t belong on my skin. But you will surely recognize the ingredients in this next scrub:

Honey Skin Scrub

A good honey scrub is one classic among home spa recipe. A good honey skin rub is capable of moisturizing and smoothing the skin. This is not to mention the exfoliation and cleansing effects of a good homemade honey scrub. If you apply this on a semi-regular basis, you will be impressed with the results that it provides. It’s also simple to make!

The ingredients in the recipe are available in almost every household: salt, honey, extra virgin olive oil, and any essential oils you may enjoy the smell of. You can leave the essential oils out if you prefer a scent-free scrub. To make the scrub, simply combine the following in a large bowl:

½ cup olive oil
½ cup honey
1 cup of salt

Once all of the ingredients are thoroughly mixed, you will have a scrub that is applicable to your face immediately. You should feel free to apply the mix for yourself at this point and enjoy all of the soothing benefits that this scrub has to offer. Once you let it soak in for a while (about 20-30 min) clean the scrub off with a wet rag. Your skin will feel like you just stepped out of the spa.

Natural Citrus Moisturizer

This is another great one of the homemade spa recipes that you can make in a jiffy and get a great result. The ingredients can be a little harder to find, but it will surely be worth it once you get to use the final product. This moisturizer feels great on your skin, it also allows you to get a fresh look and compare a natural product to a more artificial one. Here are some of the ingredients that you will need for this delightful concoction:

1/3 cup of lime juice
1/3 cup Beeswax
Any base oil you enjoy

The process for making this moisturizer is quite simple. Take the pan to a medium heat and add the beeswax to the pan. After the beeswax melts, it is time to add the lime juice. You will notice that the two ingredients combine seamlessly to make a beautiful product that smells great. This scent should take you right to the Florida groves, or perhaps the Florida Keys. Take out the mixture and allow it to cool briefly.

At this point, you can add the base oil of your choice. The scent does not matter as long as it is something that you enjoy. Make sure that you let the mixture cool for about an hour. Once it has cooled down you are ready to apply it to your face! You will find the feeling you get to be absolutely outstanding. These two simple recipes will add a lot to your at-home spa recipes collection. You will only get better as you continue to make them.
